Location: Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center – Baltimore

Leadership: Frederick Barrett, associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, is the center director.

Overview: Renowned psychedelics researcher Roland Griffiths, who passed away in October 2023, was the founding director of the center. Launched in 2019, the center’s mission is “to answer the most important questions in psychedelic research, therapy and clinical education, and broaden the field of psychedelic science in collaboration with the best multidisciplinary scientists in the world.”

Location: Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute at UC Berkeley – Berkeley, California

Leadership: Michael Silver serves as directory; Imran Khan serves as executive director.

Overview: Founded in 2020, the UC Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics is an academic center focused on psychedelic research, training and public education. Administratively housed within the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute and overseen by a multidisciplinary group of UC Berkeley faculty, the center’s work has five main focus areas: public education/journalism; research; training; DEI; and reciprocity.

Location: University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, Michigan

Leadership: George Mashour, a professor of anesthesiology, neurosurgery, pharmacology and psychology at the University of Michigan, is the founder and director of M-PsyC.

Overview: Launched at the University of Michigan in 2022, the center’s mission is “to advance multidisciplinary education, research, therapy and community engagement related to psychedelics.”

Location: Ohio State University – Columbus, Ohio

Leadership: Assistant Professor of Social Work Alan Davis is the director.

Overview: Approved by the Ohio State College of Social Work faculty in January 2022, the center’s mission is “to explore and advance the research about psychedelic drugs and their effects, and to disseminate the knowledge about psychedelics through education initiatives at the college, university, and local, national and international locations.”

Location: The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School – Austin, Texas

Leadership: Greg Fonzo and Charles Nemeroff are the co-directors.

Overview: Launched in 2021, the Center for Psychedelic Research and Therapy “aims to advance the application of psychedelics for the treatment of mental health disorders through impactful clinical research.” The center’s focus areas have been on military veterans living with PTSD; adults experiencing prolonged grief disorder or depression; and those who have experienced childhood trauma.

Location: NYU Grossman School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry
– New York City

Leadership: Michael Bogenschutz, a professor of psychiatry at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, is the director.

Overview: The NYU Langone Health Center for Psychedelic Medicine has three transdisciplinary areas of focus: psychiatry, medicine and preclinical research.

Leadership: Broadie Dunlop and George Grant are the co-founders and co-directors.

Overview: “The ECPS is the world’s first center to fully integrate clinical and research-based expertise in psychiatry and spiritual health to better understand the therapeutic promise of psychedelic medicines,” according to Emory University.
